BATNA (Algeria)- The water transfer system related to Beni Haroun dam (Mila), linking this giant dam (about 1 billion m3) to Koudiet Medouar dam, close to Timgad, was inaugurated Thursday by Prime Minsiter Abdelmalek Sellal.
This transfer was carried out as part of a "green line of emergency" through a pipe of 120 km length and 1.40 meters diameter, for a flow of 1 m3 per second. Another line will be operational in the beginning of 2015, according to the sector's local officials.
This major project will allow dealing definitely with the deficit experienced by the region of Batna in terms of drinking water supply, because of the reduction of the filling rate of Koudiet Medouar dam.
Batna province will be supplied with drinking water through this green line between Beni Haroun and Koudiet Medouar dams through Ain Kercha pumping station (282 million m3 per year) which will meet the needs of this region of Aures over the next 30 years.
