President Bouteflika calls for preservation of Algeria's water resources

ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has called for preservation of Algeria's potential in water resources, stressing that "the relevant actions are undertaken within the framework of sustainable development."
In a message to mark the World Water Day (March 22), the head of State said this resource needs a "special protection" to ensure the country's economic growth and social development.
It is a "rare and fragile" resource, the president of the Republic underlined, pointing out that the state has devoted a "vast, ambitious and costly programme for drinking water supply and agricultural hydraulics."
President Bouteflika mentioned the sea water desalination plants set up along the country's costs from east to west.
The state "continues to significantly subsidize water price to facilitate access to drinking water."
"The infrastructures established during the past fifteen years have been a concrete answer to water scarcity issue," The president stressed.
